Presentation:
A clear, pale yellow solution for injection containing
Streptomycin 200,000 Units/ml as Streptomycin Sulphate
Sodium Metabisulphite (E223) 1mg as an antioxidant
Chlorocresol 1mg.
Uses:
Devomycin Injection is indicated in the treatment of infections
caused by organisms sensitive to Streptomycin in cattle, sheep
and pigs. Devomycin Injection is also indicated in the
treatment of Actinobacillosis (wooden tongue) in cattle, and
leptospirosis in cattle and pigs.
Dosage & Administration:
By intramuscular injection only.
Cattle, sheep and pigs: A daily dose rate of 10,000 units per kg
bodyweight (1ml/20kg) is recommended for up to three days.
For cattle, the maximum dose volume to be administered at a
single site is 10ml.
Withdrawal Period:
Milk for human consumption must not be taken during treatment.
Milk for human consumption my only be taken from cows after 48 hours from the last treatment.
Not intended for use in sheep producing milk for human consumption.
Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption during treatment. Cattle may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 12 days from the last treatment.
Sheep and pigs may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 18 days from the last treatment.
Contraindictions, Warnings etc:
Excessive and prolonged administration can lead to interference with balance and hearing. In extreme cases damage can be permanent.
Take particular care when treating animals suffering from renal damage.
Devomycin Injection is contra-indicated in known cases of hypersensitivity to streptomycin.
Avoid the introduction of contamination during use.
Should any apparent growth or discoloration occur, the product should be discarded.
Pharmaceutical Precautions:
Do not store above 25°C.
Once a vial has been broached the contents should be used within 28 days.
Discard unused material.
Unused product or waste material should be disposed of in accordance with current practice for pharmaceutical waste under national waste disposal regulations.
